Causes of Diabetes

Medical professionals have identified a number of risk factors associated with the disorder but have few ideas as to the ultimate causes of diabetes. What they do know is that diabetes exhibits a strong inheritance pattern—individuals with family members that have been diagnosed with diabetes are much more likely to develop the disorder. Additionally, exposure to chemicals and environmental hazards has been cited as a cause of diabetes.

There are a number of causes of diabetes that doctors have yet to confirm as actual agents: childhood vaccinations; excessive consumption of sweets, fats and carbohydrates; smoking; physical trauma; and emotional anguish. Not enough evidence exists to list these as unquestionable causes of diabetes. Currently, doctors and scientists are diligently working to determine the ultimate causes of diabetes and educate the public on how to either prevent or treat these sources.
